Obituary for Mary Barfield Miller

Mary Barfield Miller, 79, of Southport, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 5, 2017. She was born March 17, 1938 in Southport, Florida, and attended Bay County schools. Mary was first employed by Christo’s Five and Dime. Afterwards, she went to work for McCrory’s Five and Dime, and finally Margaret Fashion’s until their closing. She then began working as a bus driver for Bay District Schools for 16 years, until she retired in 2003. She was a faithful member of The Dove Assembly of God in Southport. Mary will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John Fletcher Miller, Jr.; parents, Wilkey and Nellie Barfield; father and mother in-law, Fletcher and Flossie Miller; sister, Dessaray Traylor; brothers, Wilford and Donald Barfield; sister-in-law, Frances Coggins; brothers-in-law, Paul Cooley, Wayne Adkins, Joel Traylor, Billy Wes Miller, Mack Miller, and Gene Ford, and her nieces, Kimela Biddinger and Melania Covington.

Those left to cherish Mary’s memory include her daughter, Constance “Koni” Gilmore (Roland); grandchildren, Ashley Sanders (Clint) and Lee Gilmore; great granddaughter, Rowan Audrey Sanders; sisters, Alice Cooley, Shirley Adkins, and Vina Biddinger (John); sisters-in-law, Ruth Barfield, Ellen Ford, Julia Booth, and Mary Davenport (Louie); brother-in-law, Bill Coggins; one aunt and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Serving as pallbearers are Terry Wirt, Wally Cooley, Tony Adkins, Derick Biddinger, Dave Millican, Maxel Miller, Rosby Ford, Kyle Davenport, Louie Davenport, Jr., Billy Coggins and Bo Covington. Honorary pallbearers are Billy Joe Melvin, Lonnie Andrews, Larry Lemieux, Darwin Glass, Jerry Hall, Doug Hall, Nixon Miller, Gerald Miller, Lloyd Gilmore, W.H. Ellis, Lynn Ellis, David Spence, cousins, and her Dove family.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Friday, April 7, 2017 at The Dove Assembly of God. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 8, 2017 at The Dove Assembly of God with Pastor Jason Lowery, Pastor Derick Biddinger, and Pastor Craig Brannon officiating. Interment will follow at Southport Memorial Gardens. Afterwards, family and friends will gather at the home of John & Vina Biddinger, 1501 Nassau Street, Southport, FL 32409.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to her physicians and nursing staff of St. Andrews Bay Nursing Center, Bay Medical Center, Emerald Coast Hospice, and Covenant Hospice.
