Obituary for Ruby Bailey Shiver

Ruby Bailey Shiver, of Lynn Haven, was called home to be with the Lord on April 11, 2017. Born on October 7, 1919 in Calhoun County, Ruby lived a long and happy life. She touched the lives of many and accomplished so much in her 97 years. Ruby was a talented writer, having written two books, Holmes Valley Band Creek Indians (The Wind Clan), and a personal biography, Run with the Wind. She was also a welder during WWII. Above all else, Ruby was a beloved mother and grandmother. She had such a great love and compassion for children; she took care of many neighborhood children, opening not only her home for food and comfort, but her heart to all of them as well. Ruby was not only a great mother, beloved friend, and hard worker; she was also a tribal clan mother and Elder of the Lower Muskogee Creek Tribe.

Ruby is preceded in death by her mother, Nettie Sheffield Bailey; father, Ira Bailey; three brothers, George, Ernest and Coy Bailey; and two sisters, Laura and Jewel Bailey.

She is survived by her nine children: daughter, Christina & husband Charles Venable, sons, Rex & wife Linda, Wilton, Willard, Ira, Ronnie, Andrew and Michael, and daughter, Linda Maxine Turner; eleven grandchildren: Neal & wife Marian McCormick, Tommy & wife Mary McCormick, John & wife Julia McCormick, Cary Boyette, Tyron Boyette, Amanda & husband Christopher Whittle, Joshua & wife Becky Turner, Candace Russ, Jessica & husband Chris Sutter, Karrah Adams and Natalie Adams; twenty great grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; eleven great-great-great grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.

A Celebration of Ruby’s Life will begin 7:00 P.M., Friday, April 14, 2017 at Oasis Worship Center, 8400 Front Beach Road. The family will receive friends beginning 6:00 P.M. prior to the service. A graveside service will begin 2:00 P.M., Saturday, April 15, 2017 at W.T. Sheffield Family Cemetery, 3752 Holmes Valley Road, Vernon, FL 32462, with Rev. Tommy McCormick officiating.

Ruby was a strong individual whose faith in God and love for the Lord helped her overcome many obstacles in her life. She will be missed dearly by all she knew and all who loved her, her kind spirit, and loving heart. Her generous nature will live on in the hearts of her children and grandchildren. Run with the Wind, Ruby.
